Contingent of Canadian artists at Expo 2020 Dubai

Singer-songwriter Jill Barber, Quebec innovators Les Grands Hurleurs and Cape Breton traditionalists Beòlach kick off Canada’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai, the global exhibition delayed by the pandemic which will take place in the United Arab Emirates from October 1 to March 31.

All three acts are part of a contingent of Canadian artists who will perform in Dubai over the next six months, co-presented by the National Arts Center and Global Affairs Canada. Hosted by Heather Gibson, NAC Executive Director of Popular Music and Variety, the program is designed to demonstrate the diversity and excellence of the performing arts in Canada.

Other participating artists are Dominique Fils-Aimé, Pierre Kwenders and RITT, as well as a roster of Indigenous artists that includes Digging Roots, Shawnee Kish, Dancers of Damelahamid, Sarain Fox, Kevin Loring and more.

After a one-year postponement due to the pandemic, Expo 2020 Dubai is expected to welcome 191 countries, each with its own pavilion, and millions of visitors. It is the first global exhibition to be organized in the region which encompasses the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.
